Our Story
Spirit of the Forest
Planting a Seed
The Spirit of the Forest Foundation was founded on World Rewilding Day, March 20th, 2024. It was registered as a nonprofit organization in the Netherlands on the International Day of Forests, March 21st, 2024.
The idea behind the foundation arose during a retreat, where the founder experienced the healing power of the forest. Forests are beautiful, biodiverse, and show us how interconnected all life on Earth is. They provide us with clean air, fresh water, and capture carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, storing it in the soil and trees. Forests calm our minds and inspire us.
Learning from Nature
Forests are resilient, especially if they are biodiverse. We want to link forests around the world to create a network of protected areas that are interconnected. This way, animals can migrate and plants can spread their seeds.
Humans can live in harmony with forest ecosystems, and benefit from them. We can learn from indigenous communities, who have lived in forests for thousands of years. They have a deep understanding of the forest and its inhabitants, and can teach us how to live in a sustainable way.
Working Together
By working together, we can protect and regenerate forests. We are in the unique position to restore what we and our ancestors have destroyed. We can plant trees, restore ecosystems, and ensure that existing forests are protected from illegal logging and other threats.
We invite you to join us in our mission to protect and regenerate forests. Together, we can make a difference and create a better world for future generations.
